The Comedy Club:
David Schendel’s documentary uses the story of Cobb’s Comedy Club as an entry point for documenting the exciting comedy scene in 1980s San Francisco.
Many of the famous comedians launched during that era take part in this entertaining and incisive film, shot over many years.
Strong performances throughout, with Casey Affleck particularly distinctive as the one honest cop in the mix.
Rated R. 115 minutes.
There are a few over-the-top sequences, but the black-and-white cinematography and dreamy mood are very impressive.
In several European and Colombian tribal languages, with English subtitles.
Rated PG-13. 134 minutes.
