Will Eno making America surreal again
With plays like “Thom Pain (Based on Nothing),” “Tragedy: a Tragedy” and “Middletown,” Eno has become America’s leading practitioner of comedies that probe the surreal within what passes for normalcy.
Loretta Greco directs Eno’s 2014 Broadway hit, now in previews at American Conservatory Theater’s Geary Theater, about very ordinary small-town neighbor couples with a shared surname and some highly unusual traits.
Rebecca Watson and Allison Jean White are the women married to men who suffer a similar affliction, a progressive loss of language and logic that makes ordinary conversation an extraordinary adventure.
