The 'fifth' Beatle, George Martin, has died

London-born Martin was the man who signed the Beatles after others had knocked them back, and then helped the band develop their distinctive sound has their producer and arranger. His influence earned him the title the fifth Beatle.
Ringo Starr took to Twitter to announce the news.

The late John Lennon's son paid tribute on Instagram.
Beatles drummer Ringo Starr tweeted the news on Wednesday, saying "God bless George Martin peace and love to Judy and his family love Ringo and Barbara George will be missed".
Sean Lennon, the son of John Lennon, also took to Twitter to say he was "gutted" by Martin's death.
In a music career of more than 60 years, Martin produced 30 number-one hit singles in the UK and a further 23 in the US.
Born in London,
Martin's work earned him several accolades including six Grammy awards, the most recent coming in 2007, and two BRIT awards.
He also worked in television and film, producing the well-known James Bond theme songs 'Goldfinger' and 'Live and Let Die'.
The cause of his death is not yet known.
