3 teens killed, 11 hurt in bakkie crash
Three high school boys were killed near Eshowe when the bakkie in which they were travelling collided with a bus.
|||Durban - Three high school teenage boys were killed near Eshowe when the bakkie in which they were travelling was involved in a collision on Wednesday morning.
Robert McKenzie, spokesman for the KwaZulu-Natal provincial Emergency Medical Service, said that the bakkie and a bus collided on the R66 near Eshowe at the Mlalalazi Bridge shortly before 7am.
A total of four vehicles were involved in the collision, but the main impact was between the bakkie and the bus.
He said 11 other children were injured in the accident.
They had been travelling in the bakkie. No one from the bus was reported injured.
The cause of the collision was not immediately known and authorities were at the accident scene investigating.
The three pupils who died were aged 16 to 18 years old. One of the injured was described as being in a serious condition, while the remainder of the injured sustained minor injuries.
It was not immediately known at which school the children were pupils.
