|||Jeremy Brockie converted the decisive penalty as SuperSport United scraped into the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals Tuesday with a 4-2 shootout victory over Pretoria University.
SuperSport overcame a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 after extra-time, with all the goals coming during regular time at Lucas 'Masterpieces' Moripe Stadium.
United converted four consecutive penalties to win the shootout, while goalkeeper Ronwen Williams saved two Pretoria University spot-kicks in a row.
Sending former Zimbabwe goalkeeper Washington Arubi the wrong way to win the match was the second significant contribution by Brockie.
He scored his 15th goal of the season in all competitions on 73 minutes with a close-range header to trigger a SuperSport comeback.
Revitalised by the goal, United pressed forward continuously against tiring opponents and levelled six minutes from time when substitute Morne Nel punished an Arubi mistake.
Innocent Nemukondeni put Pretoria ahead, Michael Morton equalised before half-time and Ian Chikohwa regained the lead for the visitors, which increased when Grant Kekana conceded an own goal.
SuperSport join fellow Premiership clubs Free State Stars, holders Mamelodi Sundowns, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Orlando Pirates, Polokwane City and Wits and second division leaders Baroka in the quarter-finals draw Thursday. – AFP
