Record-setting heat on the way as Bay Area temps spike
Records are expected to tumble around the Bay Area Wednesday as the region is set to see its hottest day of the year, so far, with temperatures in many areas 20 degrees higher than normal.
The coast, usually a refuge from sweltering conditions inland, won’t provide much of an escape, Anderson said, as the heat was being fueled by offshore winds that essentially cut off the sea breeze, which acts like a natural air conditioner for the region’s beaches.
A complex low pressure system that has set up off the coast has a 40 percent chance of producing showers Friday, but Anderson said the wet weather is unpredictable so the exact amounts and when it will hit has been hard to pin down.
Nonetheless, unsettled weather should stick around through at least early Saturday with rainfall totals of a tenth to a quarter inch accumulating before things clear out.
