Exiled singer Googoosh remains in vogue
Before the revolution, Googoosh was the face of pop culture in Iran — a national icon whose status in that country loomed even larger than Madonna here.
After the Shah of Iran was exiled in 1979, she spent two decades under house arrest and was prohibited from singing before she finally left the country to settle in Los Angeles and reconnect with her fans.
The 65-year-old singer, who is on tour in support of her latest album, “Aks-e Khosusi” (“Private Picture”), still regularly sells out shows around the world.
