An Ibadan-based man identified as Yisau Koyejo has exposed his wife’s undoings in a Mapo customary court in the ancient city of Ibadan.
Koyejo told the court to dissolve his 31-year-old marriage to his wife, Idayat, citing adultery and food poisoning as the main reasons he is suing for a separation.
Ademola Odunade, who presided over the matter, stated that in spite of all the court did to resolve the matter amicably, the man remained adamant, warning spouses to be careful of the negative implications of their misbehaviours.
He said: “Since all the six children are now adults, they are free to go anywhere because they can make decisions on their own. They can choose to live either with the father or the mother.
“In the interest of peaceful coexistence the union between Koyejo and Idayat has ceased to be henceforth.”
According to Koyejo, “Since 1985 when I married Idayat, she has been involved in one act of adultery or the other, which for one reason or the other, I kept forgiving her.
“Rather than desist from further adultery after six grown up children Idayat continued. Recently, when she observed that I was being too observant and inquisitive about her behaviour, Idayat went for the option of poisoning my meal in order to eliminate me from the surface of the earth.
“Were it not for my closeness to God, I would have been died. I made her understand that I knew that she poisoned my food.
“The matter became a subject of family intervention and my relatives, who can no longer take the wicked act, agreed that Idayat must leave.
“I am completely tired of her evil antics in my life. She is a devil incarnate and useful for nothing.”
The wife however denied all the allegations leveled against her, while pleading with the court not to grant the petition by the husband, adding that she wants to stay with her children who could take care of her.
