President Obama gets to see ‘Game of Thrones’ way before everyone else
With the "Game of Thrones" season six premiere weeks away, most diehard fans are beside themselves with anticipation. This season has been the most secretive yet, with code names for characters and canceled press screeners worldwide.
But one man probably got his hands on an advanced copy of the season six episodes: President Obama.
During an interview at the Hollywood premiere of "Game of Thrones" on April 10, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss discussed Obama's access to the tightly-sealed material.
Interviewer Veronica Belmont asked: "Have you had any major aha moments — like ‘Oh my god we totally made it’ — now that you’ve come into season six and the show is just so incredibly big and popular?"
"I think, for both of us, finding out the President wanted advanced copies of the episodes was an 'aha' moment," Weiss replied. "That was a very strange moment."
Belmont asked if the answer was yes.
"Yes," Weiss confirmed. "He’s the leader of the free world."
"When the commander-in-chief says 'I want to see advanced episodes,' what are you gonna do?" Benioff added.
Actor Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) has spoken of Obama's unprecedented access as well. In an interview with Vulture, Cunningham said: "Did you know he gets advance copies? POTUS. He gets DVD copies before we do. And we're in it!"
Though neither Benioff, Weiss, or Cunningham specifically spoke about season six, we'd guess POTUS was more insistent than ever about his desire to see the season before the rest of us plebeians.

And while the cast and some lucky fans saw the first episode at the April 10 premiere in Los Angeles, so far no major leaks have occurred. Looks like Obama, and the rest of the crew, are keeping their lips tightly sealed. "Game of Thrones" season six airs on April 24.
