Kawhi Leonard again beats Draymond Green for NBA defense award
For the second straight year, San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
Leonard on Monday became the first non-center to win the award in consecutive seasons since Dennis Rodman in 1989-90 and 1990-91.
Leonard, who’s 6-foot-7, received 84 first-place votes and 547 points from a panel of 130 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Green, the All-Star forward, received 44 first-place votes and 421 points.
The bigs are there on the help side if the guy goes by me and I’m able to switch to other offensive players and all the other guards on my team to guard the best offensive player.
The Spurs drafted Leonard out of San Diego State in 2011 with the intent of having him fill the defensive void on the wing they had lacked since the retirement of Bruce Bowen in 2009.
