New Paul Schrader, Pablo Larrain, Laura Poitras Films Headline Cannes Directors' Fortnight Line-Up
The Cannes Film Festival isn’t just the main line-up, which is always impressive enough as it is. There’s the Cannes Critics Week line-up and now, this morning the Director’s Fortnight, sidebar has been revealed. La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, as its known in French, is usually a place for discovery titles and up-and-coming filmmakers, Ben Wheatley’s “Sightseers,” Jeremy Saulnier’s “Green Room,” and Miguel Gomes’ “Arabian Nights” all debuted in this section.
This year some of the key director’s a bit more established. The closing night film will be Paul Schrader’s latest noir-ish “Dog Eat Dog” starring Nicolas Cage, Willem Dafoe and Louisa Krause. Plus the sidebar includes new films from Alejandro Jodorowsky (“Endless Poetry”), Pablo Larraín (“Neruda”) and "Citizenfour" documentarian Laura Poitras (“Risk”).
