Amazon has slashed the prices of its Echo and Tap speakers for today only

AmazonAmazon has discounted its Echo and Tap speakers by 15% today. The discount brings the former to $153.71, down from its usual $179.99, and the latter to $111.01, down from its usual $129.99.
While this isn’t the lowest the Echo’s been to date, it marks the first major discount the smart Bluetooth speaker has had since Black Friday, when the device sold for $149. As for the Tap, this is the first deal it’s received since it launched last month.
On its homepage, Amazon says the deal is a response to it being named the country’s most reputable company in The Reputation Institute’s U.S. RepTrack 100 report.
Between the two, we’d say the Echo is the better buy. Both speakers have access to Amazon’s increasingly capable Alexa voice assistant, but using it with the Tap is less convenient, since you have to press a button on the speaker’s front to activate it. The Echo also sounds a bit better, though neither are what we’d call high-fidelity. The Tap’s advantage is that it’s battery-powered, and thus much more portable than the Echo, which has to be plugged into an outlet at all times.
In truth, the best deal of the bunch is the Amazon Echo Dot, which works like a miniature version of the Echo, and has the ability to connect to external speakers. It’s still available for $90, but it can only be ordered with Alexa itself.
In any case, if you’ve been interested in trying an Echo device out, the deals today are solid.
