Cal Performances goes ‘radical’ with new season
Cal Performances took the wraps off plans for its 2016-17 season Tuesday, April 19, with the area’s premier presenting organization’s boundary-busting signaled by its theme for the season, “#BerkeleyRadical.”

[...] on the agenda for the new season are performances by Georgia’s Ensemble Basian; the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge; a recital of Baroque arias by mezzo-soprano Joyce Di Donato; recital by Swedish soprano Miah Persson and Austrian tenor Florian Boesch of works by Robert Schumann; jazz vocalist Ann Hampton Callaway; the world premiere of a fully staged production of Rameau’s opera-ballet “Le temple de la gloire” by Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Chorale; and the New York Baroque Dance Company.
Wynton Marsalis will bring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra to Oakland’s Paramount Theatre under the Cal Performances banner on Sept. 29.
The Venice Baroque Orchestra, the Akademie Für alte Musik Berlin, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, and Jordi Savall with Hesperion XXI are also on the schedule, as are the dance companies Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Bale Folclorico de Bahia from Brazil, Sweden’s Cullberg Ballet, the Scottish Ballet with Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s “A Streetcar Named Desire” and Rioult Dance NY.
