Markit Economics will release its preliminary purchasing manager's index (PMI) for April at 9:45 a.m. ET.
Economists forecast a flash PMI reading of 52, according to Bloomberg.
That would be up from 51.5 in March, reflecting that the sector is continuing its slow improvement.
The Institute of Supply Management's PMI was 51.8 in March. It was the first reading that indicated expansion in seven months. Anything below 50 is contraction.
