Pier on fire in Oakland sends towering smoke plume over East Bay
A fire near the Oakland estuary sent a large column of black smoke towering over the East Bay Saturday afternoon, but the blaze was quickly brought under control and officials said no buildings had been damaged and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters first got word of the blaze, which was burning on a pier near East 7th Street, around 11:45 a.m., the fire department said.
