NSCDC descends on filling station selling above official pump price, four persons arrested

– The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has warned against hoarding of fuel or selling above the official pump price

– The general commandant directed that any filling station caught hoarding PMS or selling above the official pump price as stipulated should be sanction

– Officials of the defence corps arrested foru persons who were involved in fuel hoarding

– Ogun state NSCDC command has visited 172 filling stations and are making sure they obey the directive of the general commandant

Four persons were arrested by officials of the NSCDC, Ogun state command for indulging in fuel hoarding and selling above official pump price.

Those arrested are; Adigun Idowu, 49, and Olatunji Yusuf 44, of Lucky oil, Odeda.

Others are; Quadri Abass, 29 and Shittu Sherifdeen, 28 of Friendly Top filling station, also at Odeda in Odeda local government area of the state.

Also, managers of some filling stations visited by the officials, where staff were selling above normal price but ran away upon sighting the officials vehicles were invited to appear at the NSCDC office in Odeda.

According to a release this evening and signed by the public relations officer of the command, Kareem Olanrewaju disclosed that the suspects failed to cooperate with them when appealed to sell at the official pump price.

They were not able to present all necessary documents requested on demand, hence their arrest.

Those arrested, according to NSCDC spokesman, will be charged to court, except they are prepared to sell at the official rate.

The NSCDC has begun full implementation of normal PMS pump price of N86.50 in Ogun state.

It would be recalled that the corps commandant, Aboluwoye Akinwande has deployed his men of anti-hoarding and petroleum pump price monitoring team to effect the commandant-general’s order.

The order was contained in a circular sent to all NSCDC formation nationwide, which includes Ogun state.

The team is to ensure full compliance of the official pump price of N86.50 for independent marketer and N86.00 for Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

So far, the Ogun state NSCDC command has visited 172 filling stations and are still continuing with the monitoring.

The exercise will continue until further notice as the train will soon move out of Abeokuta metropolis to other areas in the state.

The corps team, according to the general commandant directives is to sanction any filling station caught hoarding PMS or selling above the official pump price as stipulated.

“It is hereby prohibited for any filling station to either hoard PMS or sell above pump price. Any filling station caught doing so will be sanctioned accordingly.

“Members of the public are hereby warned to always be vigilant and guide against panic buying, which may encourage filling stations taken advantage of them.

“The NSCDC, Ogun state command is not ready to compromise on anything that will stand in the way of implementing this order. For this, no filling station should claim ignorance of this directive. Anyone who does that will be seen as sabotaging federal government efforts aimed at normalising fuel crisis.

 “They should always insist on buying the product at N86.50 if such filling station belongs to major marketers. Buying at official pump prices is your rights and you should always insist on it,” the statement reads in part.

It was to this effect that the corps anti hoarding team on patrol stormed Odeda area based on tip off by some people and made some arrest.

The anti-hoarding and petrol pump price monitoring team has however recorded successes in some filling stations visited. Some of the filling stations visited includes; Danbold, Forte, Ebenfem, Target, Deyoonu, Energy, Mobile, Al-Rahmon among others.

They were able to revert their prices to official price of N86.50 and also prevented them from hoarding by compelling them to sell to the members of the public on demand.

The NSCDC however appealed to members of the public to always inform them of any wrong doings from any filling stations.
