Minister exposes herdsmen behind killings

Following the surge in killings by suspected herdsmen in the country, the minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbe, has called for the herdsmen to be disarmed immediately.
Chief Audu Ogbe has said most of the herdsmen behind the attacks in the country are from Mali, Chad and some Shua Arabs all armed with AK 47s.
Audu Ogbe in an interview with Vanguard said the only way herdsmen and their cattle can be stopped from moving from place to place is by designating land for cattle ranching.

The minister however noted that most of the herdsmen as we know now are not even Nigerians, he said they are from Mali, Chad and some Shua Arabs, all armed with AK 47s in their desperation to feed their cows.
He said that the federal government has already 5, 000 hectares of land in nine states for ranching to stop cows from moving from place to place.
The minister noted that the criticism that greeted the federal government’s decision to import grass was misplaced, adding that every country imports grass.
He said: Even the Camerounians have even offered to sell us grass and grass seeds. If your cows are not well-looked after, if the herdsmen have no grass to feed their cattle, they will move and when they move, they will cause trouble.”

Meanwhile, Niger Delta agitators under the aegis of Concerned Militant Leaders (CML) have announced that they will declare war if Fulani herdsmen fail to leave the South-East and South-South states within two weeks.
The Sun reports that the group issued a warning on Tuesday, May 3, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, following recent attacks and killings of innocent people by herdsmen
The CML spokesperson, simply known as General Ben, stressed that the federal government should within the 14 days deadline tell Nigerians who the Fulani herdsmen are, otherwise, the spate of killings of the “so-called herdsmen” would be unprecedented.
