Dolby Laboratories announced a deal Wednesday that could boost its little-known telephone conferencing service, Dolby Voice, which uses the company’s audio expertise to greatly enhance the clarity of remote meetings.
Highfive, which shipped its first products in January 2015, is trying to make headway against long-established videoconferencing giants Cisco Systems and Polycom.
The technology can also separate the sound of voices to let people outside the room distinguish who is speaking, as well as their locations within the meeting room.
BT Group began offering the round teleconferencing phone two years ago and has customers numbering in “the hundreds,” said Andrew Border, general manager of Dolby’s communications group.
Border said the partnership with Highfive, which markets a video-conferencing camera that sets up easily atop a video monitor, could help spread the word about Dolby Voice among small and medium-size businesses.
Highfive has about 1,500 customers, including eyeglass maker Warby Parker and online information organizer Evernote, and plans to offer its combined video conferencing-Dolby Voice service for $199 per month per meeting room, Sinha said.
