Senators reject decision-making in food stamps work mandate

(AP) — Senators have rejected a bid to give lawmakers authority to determine whether food stamp recipients should have to work to get federal assistance.

Rep. Jay Morris, a Monroe Republican, had won House support for his proposal to require legislative approval to seek a federal waiver of the work requirements for able-bodied, childless adults who receive food stamps.
