Kano APC crisis: Ganduje, Kwankwaso in closed-door meeting

– The crisis rocking the APC in Kano state may soon be over as Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje and his Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso are ready to conclude a truce

– The governor and his predecessor met with the Reconciliation Committee set up by the APC leadership at the National Secretariat in Abuja

– Senator Lawal Shuaibu revealed that tremendous progress was made in the reconciliatory efforts

– He commended Ganduje and Kwankwaso who agreed to put behind their differences and work together in the interest of the people of the state

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state may soon be over as both parties involved in the dispute are reportedly ready to conclude a truce.

Leadership reports that Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje and his predecessor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, met with the Reconciliation Committee set up by the APC at the National Secretariat in Abuja.

The closed-door meeting, which lasted for over two hours, was attended by Ganduje, Kwankwaso, the party’s leaders and some state government officials.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, the chairman of the committee and the deputy national chairman (North), revealed that tremendous progress has been made in the reconciliatory efforts.

Shuaibu commended Ganduje and Kwankwaso who agreed to put behind their differences and work together in the interest of the people of the state.

“You must be aware for the past two hours, we have been holding meeting, dealing with the crisis we have in our party in Kano state and this is not the first meeting we are holding, we’ve just been holding series of meetings only that this is the first one holding at the National Secretariat that is why probably you are coming to know about it.

“We discussed the issue of the crisis we have in Kano and so far, I can say we have made tremendous progress. From the conclusion of today’s interaction with both the governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the former governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, they both agreed to work together in the interest of the people and their party and put behind whatever differences that might have opened the window for discord and I can assure that for the party in Kano, we have better days now that the two leaders have agreed to peace and that is all we have to tell you now.

“We have made tremendous progress, you can see the notable elders of our party from Kano state, those we call our national leaders, Malam Musa Gwadabe you can see him, Malam Sule Hamman, you can see him, Alhaji Yusuf Ali is also here,” he said.

When asked to give the details of the meeting and the gains expected after it, Shuaibu said:

“When two leaders are having a misunderstanding, and you bring the two leaders together, and they agree to work together for the benefit of their people, which means, they still have to go back to their people after bringing them together and its means there are bit and pieces the bit and pieces could not just going to be there responsibility it is a collective responsibility everybody has a role to play, the elders from Kano have a role to play and the two personalities involve have a role to play down the line.”

John Odigie-Oyegun, the APC’s national chairman, had earlier disclosed that the party set up a committee to resolve division among its members. He also noted that skirmishes among party members were normal occurrences.
