Ban on cattle grazing: Nigerians applaud Fayose, urge other govs to follow his steps
– Governor Ayodele Fayose declared war on the Fulani herdsmen in Ekiti state
– He also banned grazing and rearing of cattle in the state, saying those interested in cattle farming should get their own private cattle ranch
– Nigerians commended Fayose and expressed hope that other governors would follow his steps
Governor Ayodele Fayose, while addressing local hunters at Oke-Ako Ekiti.
Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state, has declared war on the Fulani herdsmen in the state and vowed to raise N2.5 million for local hunters to defend the communities against the attackers.
“If I cannot provide adequate security for you, it is better for me to leave this office. The only reason you voted for me is because you know I am competent to do the needful in circumstances like this. Nobody will take Ekiti away from us,” the governor said.
Fayose also banned grazing and rearing of cattle in the state, saying those interested in cattle farming should get their own private cattle ranch.

The governor became the first ever state executive to take such a drastic measure in the country.
Undoubtedly, Fayose’s decision triggered mixed reactions among Nigerians. Although some people described his move “extreme and grandstanding”, majority commended him and expressed hope that other governors would follow his steps.

Gov Fayose’s ban on herds & grazing is extreme & grandstanding, but it is better than the inaction by FG, which controls army, DSS & NPF. /2

Fayose banning those Fulani Herdsmen from grazing is something worth emulating. They need to own their ransh and stop terrorising farms.

The greatest thing that will come out of Fayose’s grazing ban will be the discussion on the rights of states. He’s gotten this one correct.

You want Fayose to like Ugwanyi, watch his people get butchered and then go to Aso Rock to prostrate and cower before the oppressors?

The first duty of the Governor of a state is to ensure security of that state in any way possible and that’s exactly what Fayose has done.

If you are comfortable with the CJTF, ‘Bakassi boys’ etc, why are you angry with Fayose? He has NO choice. I support him 110%.

#Fayose. Love him or loathe him, there’s order in his madness. Actually he could turn out to be the only sane one in the lot. @segalink

Meanwhile, the foremost Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has thrown its weight behind the governor’s decision to ban cattle grazing in Ekiti state.
According to the group, the action of the governor “should jolt the federal government that has appeared largely indifferent to the murderous activities of the Fulani herdsmen to act responsibly over this matter.”
