Jonathan’s aide lands in EFCC net (Photo)

Waripamo-Owei, a former aide to Jonathan has been charged by EFCC over alleged fraud.

Dudafa Waripamo-Owei, a senior special assistant on domestic affairs to former president Goodluck Jonathan has been charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly conspiring to conceal the sum of 1.667 billion naira said to be the proceeds of crime.

According to Channels TV, Waripamo-Owei was charged alongside one Iwejuo Joseph Nna, also known at various times as Taiwo Ebenezer and Olugbenga Isaiah.

The charge sheet read that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on or about June 11, 2013 in Lagos.

The charge added that the offence was contrary to Section 18(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Amendment) Act, 2012 and punishable under Section 17(a) of the same Act.

Waripamo-Owei was also alleged to have used six companies – Seagate Property Development and Investment Limited, Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited, Ebiwise Resources, Pluto Property and Investment Company, Rotato Interlink Services and De Jakes Fast Food and Restaurant Nigeria Limited – to conceal varying sums of money between June 2013 and April 2016.

Twenty one witnesses have been listed by the EFCC to testify against the defendants, including representatives of some banks.

Waripamo-Owei and other accused persons have been scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday, June 15, before Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Meanwhile, a terrace house belonging to a former acting Governor of Adamawa state, Umaru Fintiri has been seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to The Punch, the house is located on No. 7, Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja is worth about N500m.

Fintiri who was the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, became acting governor after the impeachment of the substantive governor, Murtala Nyako, and his deputy, Bala Ngilari, in 2014.
