Delina Patrice Brooks show delves into women’s daddy issues
DelinaDreamsProductions founder and director Delina Patrice Brooks uses her own memories and those of eight other women to spin the tale of daughters and their dads in “An Open Love Letter to Black Fathers: A Choreopoem.”
Nominated for a 2016 Isadora Duncan “Izzie” Award, this piece blends dance, text, music and song to examine not just the bonds between women and their fathers but also the intricacies of relationships within black families, while also exploring violence, addiction and jail along with unconditional love and forgiveness.
“I interviewed eight women about their daddy-daughter experience to satisfy this curiosity about the ‘love stories’ that were either obvious and quite marvelous, or mangled within the trauma, disappointment and grief,” writes Brooks in a www.dancersgroup.org post.
