Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld 'excited' by Victor Wanyama's arrival
Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is "excited" by Victor Wanyama's arrival at White Hart Lane ahead of next season.
The Kenyan midfielder signed a five-year deal with Spurs last week to become Mauricio Pochettino's first signing of the summer.
Wanyama, 25, will bolster Tottenham's options in midfield ahead of a campaign that will see the north Londoners attempt to build on the third-place Premier League finish they achieved last term.
Wanyama worked alongside Alderweireld during the pair's spell at Southampton and the Belgium defender is adamant the midfielder represents an excellent addition.
"He’s a wonderful person," Alderweireld told the club's official website.
"He looks very strong and he’s a big man but he’s a very nice person – he’s the opposite of how he is on the pitch.
"I think he’s making the right move – Spurs are on the up, we’re in a good place, the new stadium is coming and we’re in the Champions League.
"I know he will feel welcomed by the guys at the Club and his quality will shine through on the pitch as well.
"He’s a very exciting signing for us and he’s a very good player,” he added.
Pochettino managed Wanyama while he was in charge of Southampton and is equally as pleased as Alderweireld to have secured the midfielder's services.
Spurs are also in the market for a striker to provide competition with Harry Kane and have made a series of offers for AZ Alkmaar forward Vincent Janssen.
The Netherlands international has confirmed he wants to move to White Hart Lane but has accused his club of setting their asking price for his services too high.
