The trial of the former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu has been adjourned till September 27 by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday, June 30.
According to The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the judge, Justice Anwuli Chikere, at the resumed hearing on Thursday, adjourned the case after Solomon Akuma (SAN), counsel to the third defendant, informed the court of a pending appeal in the Supreme Court.

Kalu and a former commissioner for finance in Abia state are standing trial for alleged money laundering involving diversion of about N3.2bn belonging to the state preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The anti-graft agency has slammed a 32-count amended charge on Kalu for diverting state’s fund as the chief executive officer of the state between 1999 and 2007.
According to the prosecution, the offences contravened Section 17 (C) of the Money Laundering Act. They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Yoruba Unity Forum, Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi (retd.), has described the attempts made by the Senate President Bukola Saraki to stop his trials as shameful and undeserving of a public figure.
Gbonigi in an interview the Punch on Wednesday, June 29, explained that any public office holder’s attempt to stop his trial was “a proof to suspect that such a public office holder had something to cover up”.
He said the ongoing court trials of the Senate president is ridiculing the image of the country.
