Oil war: Buhari takes crucial steps to stop militants

– President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo have met with security chiefs to review the security situation in the country

– Among those who attended the meeting include minister of defence, Brig-Gen. Mansur Dan Ali (retd.); national security adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Munguno (retd.); secretary to the government of the federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal; the chief of Staff to the president, Abba Kyari and the service chiefs

– Following the conclusion of the meeting the presidency did not issue any official statement on either the agenda or outcome of the meeting

Security chiefs who attended also declined to speak with journalist when they came out of the venue of the meeting.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo have attended a crucial meeting with the nation’s security chiefs to find a lasting solution to the crisis in the Niger Delta region.

According to the Punch, the meeting which took place on Thursday, June 30 also reviewed the ongoing anti-terrorism war in the northeast.

The meeting had in attendance the minister of defence, Brig-Gen. Mansur Dan Ali (retd.); national security adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Munguno (retd.); secretary to the government of the federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal; and the chief of staff to the president, Abba Kyari.

Security chiefs at the meeting included the chief of defence staff, Gabriel Olonisakin; chief of army staff, Tukur Buratai; chief of air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar;  chief of naval staff,  Ibok-Ete Ibas; director-general of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura; director-general, National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke; and the acting inspector-general of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris.

Following the conclusion of the meeting the presidency did not issue any official statement on either the agenda or outcome of the meeting.

Security chiefs who attended also declined to speak with journalist when they came out of the venue of the meeting.

Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has has decried the destruction of pipelines by militants in the Niger Delta region and said it has affected the payment of salaries.

Vanguard reports that the Delta state governor who spoke at Government Office Annex in Warri at a stakeholders’ meeting cautioned that salary of workers was at stake due to the drop in oil production caused by the militants.
