Zach Neal, who had recorded his first big-league win in relief Tuesday, was optioned to Triple-A Nashville.
Outfielder Khris Davis, who slammed his left shoulder into the wall chasing a double by Brandon Belt on Tuesday, said he was better after being a late scratch from Wednesday’s lineup.
Davis hit in the batting cage Thursday and took two rounds of batting practice before cutting that hitting session a little short to avoid fatigue before the game.
The A’s leader in homers and RBIs, Davis said he hoped to be available to pinch hit and then be in the lineup Friday.
Outfielder Josh Reddick and catcher Stephen Vogt said they could play in the infield if needed.
Reddick took some grounders at second during batting practice.
