$500K mistake: Customs officers erroneously certify smelted jewelry as destroyed

Trudeau's cabinet had to act recently to clean up a half-million-dollar problem created by customs officers. The officers erroneously declared some imported jewelry destroyed, when it had only been smelted into bullion, and paid out improper rebates of $498,000 in duties to the importers.
