The 10 things in advertising you need to know today

Good morning. Here's everything you need to know in the world of advertising today.

1. The Apple veteran PR boss Twitter hired 6 months ago is already out. Natalie Kerris has left the company and Twitter's chief marketing officer, Leslie Berland, will now lead PR and marketing.

2. Yahoo released an internal FAQ to its employees about the $4.83 billion sale of the company to Verizon. Yahoo says that at this time, it isn't planning any layoffs before the transaction closes and that it doesn't plan to offer severance benefits to employees who voluntarily resign.

3. Matthew McConaughey is Wild Turkey bourbon's new "creative director." The brand says he will serve as a "storyteller for Wild Turkey behind the camera and in front of it."

4. McDonald's supply-chain SVP told a room of journalists on Monday: "We are ready to be better." It wants its commitment to food quality to be taken more seriously.

5. Meanwhile, McDonald's Australian division has launched a fun athleisure range to celebrate the Olympics. Dubbed Legendswear, the vest top and track pants set feature subtle nods to the chain's breakfast menu.

6. Publicis Groupe settled an unrelated sex discrimination lawsuit for $3 million two months before head coach Kevin Roberts made remarks to Business Insider last week that the gender parity in advertising debate is all "over." In May, Publicis spent $3 million to settle a class-action gender discrimination lawsuit at PR agency MSLGroup in New York.

7. Former BBH president and women's campaigner Cindy Gallop has spoken to The Guardian about Kevin Roberts' remarks. Gallop said Roberts was expressing the views that those of the top of the industry hold privately, but added that "I really want not to see one man who says what the rest are thinking become the sole lightning rod. I want to see action taken at the top and all the way through."

8. Gawker founder Nick Denton confirmed he will file for personal bankruptcy to prevent Hulk Hogan from seizing his assets. A judge awarded $140.1 million in damages to Hogan after the news site published a sex tape featuring the former wrestler.

9. People are calling a Gap ad sexist. It features a girl with the label "social butterfly" and a boy with the label "the little scholar". The boy also happens to be wearing a t-shirt with a photo of Albert Einstein, but Gap managed to spell the physicist's name "Einstien" by mistake.

10. Facebook is testing mid-roll video ads in Facebook Live, AdAge reports. The ads are eligible to appear five minutes into a broadcast and can only last up to 15 seconds, an agency executive told the trade title.
