My vote is no secret, says upbeat Ramaphosa
When ANC Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa cast his ballot in Hyde Park, he made no secret of who he is voting for.
|||Johannesburg - ANC Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said while casting his ballot on Tuesday that his vote was not a secret.
Ramaphosa, who voted at Hyde Park High School in Johannesburg, walked from his house to the voting centre. He was accompanied by his wife Tshepo Motsepe-Ramaphosa and Joburg mayor Parks Tau.
He walked through the ward 90 voting station and interacted with IEC staff and one elderly resident who had come to cast her vote.
He joked and told journalists that his vote was not a secret and that he could “smell” victory for the ANC.
“As you all know my vote is not a secret, my vote is well known. I am happy that this day is here and the biggest day is tomorrow when millions of our people will be going to the voting stations to cast their votes and to make their choice of who they want to run their municipality,” said Ramaphosa.
He also reaffirmed his confidence that the ANC had done enough to convince voters to choose his party.
“We as the ANC remain confident that we have worked hard enough and we connected with our people, and they received our message,” Ramaphosa said.
“I think we have done a really great job in terms of campaigning and passing the message on to our people. Now it’s up to them to cast their vote and reconfirm their confidence in the ANC.”
Earlier on Tuesday ANC national chairperson Baleka Mbete voted at her ward in Northcliff.
Over 700 000 people applied to vote during a two-day special voting period for the local government elections.
