Honor planned for police dogs who help in arson, bomb cases
A K-9 memorial is planned at the state Department of Fire Services in Stow to honor the dogs that are trained to help investigators solve arson cases and sniff for explosives at public events.
About 40 dogs have worked for the state police since the late 1980s when they were first used to sniff for accelerants during an epidemic of arson fires in Springfield and Holyoke.
