Many Nigerians suffer from HIV, and they become unable to find the real love in their lives. This man has become their Cupid and does the matchmaking for those, who lost all hope.
People he helps are infected with HIV and over 100 happy couples can say thank you to this man. His job is not an easy one; he gets tons of calls from various people, and some of them call in the middle of the night.
They use the cheaper calling time to get a bit of hope from the man. He founded his little business in 2012. The man is 45 years of age. Presently his lists include over 7 thousand people, who live with HIV. Their age ranges from 19 to 70+. Almost 90 percent of them are women.
If the clients have no job, he provides them with free services. The employed ones pay only 6 dollars.
Over 3.5 millions of Nigerians live with HIV, so he’s got a large market to cater to. These people have a tough life. Many of them have no chance of entering a tertiary institution or getting a job.
How did Michael become an HIV cupid? He became a volunteer at some Catholic organization. He went to the hospital and helped HIV-positive patients. There for the first time, he faced the discrimination of these people. Nurses were not so eager to help them or to even come close to them.
That’s when he got the idea of helping these people to find their match in life. No one supported him, and all the government organizations refused to help. He started by spreading out 100 banners. Here is what happened next:
“By the following morning, my phone started ringing – so many people were calling me,”
Daily he receives hundreds of texts and dozens of calls. Some people are looking for HIV-positive sugar mommies; others need help with fertility.
He tries to help people with health advice and get them to start the treatment. He matches only those who already take medicine for their condition. Many people disapprove of what he does for the HIV infected. And he never goes to the weddings of the couples he matches.
His job is tough, but it’s much needed. These people lack the support of the Nigerian community. They need hope and love as we all do. And they bless the “Cupid” for his efforts to help them.
