DA mayoral candidates confident of poll victory
Democratic Alliance mayoral candidates for both Tshwane and Johannesburg remained confident of victory on the eve of the local government elections.
|||Tshwane - Democratic Alliance mayoral candidates for Tshwane and Johannesburg — Solly Msimanga and Herman Mashaba respectively — remained confident of victory on the eve of the tightly-contested local government elections.
On Tuesday evening, Msimanga and Mashaba arrived at the Electoral Commission of South Africa’s (IEC) national results operations centre (NROC) in Tshwane with DA federal executive chairman James Selfe. They briefly chatted with African National Congress secretary-general Gwede Mantashe and shook hands.
“With a few hours to go, we want our voters to reflect on what the last few years have been all about and what it’s been like. Voters tomorrow [Wednesday] can decide on whether they want to have another five years of the same or they want a change,” Msimanga told reporters at the NROC.
“As the DA we are saying, we can the change that South Africa needs. We can be the change that Tshwane, Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay and Ekurhuleni need. Tomorrow [Wednesday] can be the beginning of bigger and better things to happen in voters lives. Service delivery will take centre stage, corruption will be stopped and jobs with be created,” said Msimanga.
As campaigning closes to an end before the Wednesday polls, Msimanga was confident that he would outrun the current ANC administration in Tshwane.
Mashaba said during his campaign trail, he has encountered numerous frustrated residents of Johannesburg who want change.
“Fortunately enough the communities out there I engaged with are very angry with the treatment they have been receiving particularly in the last 15 years. They have promised us that come August 3, the DA will be the government of Johannesburg,” said Mashaba.
“We are confident that the people of Johannesburg will give us the mandate to be the government.”
South Africans across the country will turn out at voting stations to cast their ballots in the hotly-contested municipal polls on Wednesday.
