Traditional leaders urge all South Africans to vote
The National House of Traditional Leaders has urged South Africans to vote in the local government elections.
|||Johannesburg - The National House of Traditional Leaders has urged South Africans to vote in the local government elections on Wednesday.
As many as 26 million South Africans have registered to vote on Wednesday, which has been declared a public holiday. Voting stations across the country will open at 7AM and close at 7PM.
In a statement on Tuesday traditional leaders said: “The House encourages all South Africans to participate in the local government elections that will take place on Wednesday, 3 August 2016. The House is confident that the elections will be free and fair in the spirit of deepening our hard-fought freedom and democracy”.
The House is a statutory body of traditional leaders at the national level. It consists of 23 traditional leaders from all the provinces except Western Cape.
The functions of the House include, among others, providing support and advice to government at all levels on matters of service delivery, development, social cohesion and nation building.
