Details emerge from APC’s closed door meeting with Jibrin

Following the budget padding scandal that is rocking Nigeria’s House of Representatives, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, August 2, met with the former chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin, at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.
The party had said that it sent an invitation letter because Jibrin deliberately made himself inaccessible by phone.

Jibrin said he could not be reached because he had gone underground to avoid an attempt to be kidnapped by Dogara.
He met behind closed doors with the party’s national deputy chairman, North, Lawal Shuaibu; national secretary, Mala Buni; and vice-chairman, North-West, Inuwa Abdulkadiri.
Shuaibu said the party had already met with the speaker of the house, Yakubu Dogara, adding that the party was not in a position to pass judgement on the fraud allegation.
The national deputy chairman, North, also denied that the party was planning to sanction Jibrin for his relentless media campaign against Dogara and others.

He said the party would continue to engage Dogara and Jibrin, suggesting a peace deal had not been brokered yet.
In another development, Jibrin said he has not been summoned by the party’s disciplinary committee but was only invited by the party in respect of the ongoing #BudgetPadding crisis in the House of Representatives.
“That I only received a letter yesterday evening inviting me to a meeting in respect of the current crisis in the House today by 2 pm at the party’s secretariat,” Jibrin said.
He said the letter sent to him by the party did not state that he is expected to appear before any disciplinary committee.
