Nigeria’s number one table tennis athlete Aruna Quadri has qualified for the quarter finals of the Men’s Singles event at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

The Nigerian defeated Germany’s Boll Tomi 4-2 to set a historic quarter final berth at Games and will be facing world number one Ma Long who has been in that position for 48 months.

The 28-year-old also edged Czech Republic’s Dimitry Prokoptsov 4-2 in the first round before beating Yang Wang of Slovakia 4-1 in round two of the Games.
Quadri’s third round tie with highly rated Chinese Taipei’s Chuang Chig-yuan was a stroll in the park as he rattled the world number seven 4-0 in straight sets.
The 2014 World Player of the Year is ranked 30th in the world and he is expected to move up the ladder if he upsets Ma Long in the last eight.
Quadri is the only surviving Nigerian in the table tennis event of the Rio 2016 Games and the only medal hopeful.
