Meryl Streep ‘shocked’ that friend Clint Eastwood is voting for Donald Trump: ‘I’ll have to correct that’
Meryl Streep has said that she is ‘shocked’ that her friend and former co-star Clint Eastwood is voting for Donald Trump in the Presidential election.
The Oscar-winning actress, who starred opposite Eastwood in Bridges of Madison County back in 1995, said she is planning to ‘speak’ to the actor after hearing the news.
Streep, who is a vocal advocate of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, was surprised to learn of Eastwood’s political leaning at the DNS.
She told Variety: “I didn’t know that. I’ll have to speak to him. I’ll have to correct that.
“I’m shocked. I really am. Because he’s more — I would have thought he would be more sensitive than that.”
When asked who he would be voting for in a recent interview with Esquire, Eastwood said: “That’s a tough one, isn’t it?
“I’d have to go for Trump… you know, ’cause [Hillary’s] declared that she’s going to follow in Obama’s footsteps.”
He also praised him for “saying what’s on his mind” and lambasting America’s politically correct “pussy generation”.
“What Trump is onto is he’s just saying what’s on his mind,” he added.
“Sometimes it’s not so good. And sometimes it’s, I mean, I can understand where he’s coming from, but I don’t always agree with it.”
Streep spoke at the Democratic National Convention last month, praising Clinton for her ‘fire’.
She said: “Hillary Clinton has taken some fire over 40 years of her fight for families and children.
“How does she do it? That’s what I want to know. Where does she get her grit and her grace? Where do any of our female firsts, our pathbreakers, where do they find that strength?”
