Shots fired in Berkeley, gunman still on the loose
Shots were fired during a dispute between two men Wednesday morning a few blocks from San Pablo Park in Berkeley, prompting police to swarm the area in search of suspects, officials said.
Police received reports about 9 a.m. of gunfire near the park at Ashby Avenue and Sacramento Street, but by the time officers arrived, the shooter had fled, said Sgt. Andrew Frankel of the Berkeley Police Department.
Frankel said the shooter fired at the man at least once from a “relatively close distance” and then drove away from the scene southbound on Sacramento Street.
“We canvassed the area to make sure that no vehicles and buildings were hit,” said Frankel, explaining the brief closure of Stanton Street.
