Released by A’s, Billy Butler headed to Yankees
Billy Butler, let go by the A’s on Sunday, is joining the Yankees, the designated hitter confirmed to The Chronicle on Wednesday evening.
Butler was not with New York on Aug. 31, so is not eligible for postseason play with the Yankees.
The right-handed hitter is expected to join New York on Thursday and the team faces left-handed starters three of the next four games in a big series with Boston.
