West Ham are in 'real need' of points after Watford collapse, insists Cheikhou Kouyate
West Ham are in "real need" of points ahead of Saturday's trip to face West Brom, according to Cheikhou Kouyate.
Slaven Bilic's side have endured a disappointing start to the season and are languishing in 17th place - just one point above the relegation zone.
The Hammers suffered a 4-2 defeat to Watford last time out, which has threatened to dent the team's confidence after the London Stadium crowd reacted furiously to the collapse.
But Kouyate is determined to get back to winning ways at the expensive of Tony Pulis' side at the Hawthorns and banish the sour atmosphere that has threatened to engulf West Ham.
“The most important thing for us to do is to go and get the three points when we play West Brom," he told West Ham's official website.
“We are in real need of points now.
"It doesn’t matter if it is me or one of my colleagues that scores, what will please us the most is for us to go and get all three points and then push on in the league,” he insisted.
The Senegal midfielder has admitted West Ham's second-half display against Watford fell below the standards the players expect from themselves but has reassured fans similar mistakes will not be repeated in the future.
“We should have been able to take the three points from the Watford game.
“We were leading by two goals, we started really well and I think that we were in control.
“We tried to pick ourselves up in the second half, but we were unable to do so and these are errors that we will learn from and won’t be committing again in future matches," he insisted.
West Ham are at risk of dropping into the bottom three if they fail to win this weekend with Southampton - the team directly below them - set to face Swansea at the St. Mary's Stadium.
