Chelsea's John Terry continues recovery from ankle ligament injury with light jog in pool
John Terry has provided Chelsea fans with an update on his ankle injury after revealing the swelling in his foot has subsided.
The 35-year-old damaged the ligaments in his ankle in the dying stages of Chelsea's 2-2 draw at Swansea City on Sunday and, after having an MRI scan, was ruled out of action for 10 days.
The injury means Terry will be forced to sit out Chelsea's home game with Liverpool on Friday night as well as the club's EFL Cup away clash with Leicester City next Tuesday.
But the centre-back should be fit in time to face Arsenal on 24 September, with Terry revealing on Wednesday that the swelling in his ankle has gone down.
Alongside a clip of himself jogging in the pool, the Chelsea captain wrote on Instagram: "Swelling on the way down today enabling me to have a light jog in the pool, hopefully I can progress that to outside tomorrow."
The injury to Terry means Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will have to start David Luiz, who re-signed from PSG on transfer deadline day, in central defence against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
Despite Luiz's penchant for making mistakes at the back, Conte insisted on Thursday the Brazilian can prove important for Chelsea against Jurgen Klopp's free-scoring side.
"For new players it’s normal that they need some time to adapt to a new concept or idea," Conte said of Luiz.
"Tomorrow he is needed and he’s worked a lot on the defensive situations.
"I’m confident for him and his performance."
