The senator from Kogi west passed the damning verdict on the MTEF on Wednesday, November 23, during the Senate’s deliberation on the document.
In his remark, during the debate, Senator Dino Melaye described the document as “a lie, not truthful and is not factual”.
In the document, the 2017 budget was predicated on an oil bench mark of $42 per barrel and an exchange rate of 290 per dollar.
But Melaye said the details in the document was unrealistic.
“We need to know the level of compliance of the MTEF we passed last year. Is this MTEF predicated on the loan the executive want to take? Governance is about truth, it is about opening yourself to the people. The exchange rate of 290 per dollar is a lie. This is a fraud,” he said.

However Senator Ahmed Sani differed with his colleagues on the issue.
He said: “We cannot just sit in the chambers and say that this document is not good, as a certified economist I know that the government can do wonders in 3 months.”
But most of his colleagues rejected the paper as seen from the tweets from the Senate debate below:
