Amazing: Nigeria's first online community radio debuts in Lagos
The first online community radio in Nigeria has been launched in Ikorodu area of Lagos state, NAIJ.com has discovered.
The Lagos state government, and the legislative arm at the government at all levels were represented during the unveiling of the radio station identified as Ikorodu Oga Radio, in the division.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode's special adviser, Kehinde Bamigbetan, who was at the launch of the community radio, noted that governor is also a fan of the project in the state.
"The unprecedented launch of Ikorodu Oga Radio was in tandem with the vision of Lagos State Governor, His excellency Akinwunmi Ambode, who adopted an all -inclusive system of government where all hands would be on deck to achieve community development via participatory engagement at the grassroot.
"We now require community radio and media to be able to activate, set agenda, pass and share Information. Community radio is a major thrust for me, and that is why wherever I see a community radio, I identify with them to make it work, and I know Ikorodu Radio will help us achieve that here also," he explained.
Former Lagos state commissioner for Information, Otunba Ayodele Elesho, who chaired the occasion while speaking, opined that the new development is a pointer to the fact that modern day media technology (where people now listen to radio stations on the go on their smart mobile devices as against days of battery-powered radio boxes) is the in thing.
While also addressing the people at the unveiling of the epoch-making edifice in the area, Babajimi Benson, representing Ikorodu federal constituency at the House of Representatives, said tht the new development will put Ikorodu and Lagos state on the world map.
He also commended the initiator of the project, Omo'ba Peju Akinyemi, stating that he has set a precedence on what will go down in history as the foremost online community radio in Nigeria.
"Our passion is to see Ikorodu division blazing the trail among of division in Lagos State and beyond. We are also poised to build the division into a virile global community , in every sphere of human endeavour -commerce, politics, education, entertainment," Akinyemi stated after the event.
