Police won't know for days if officer fired fatal shot

(AP) — Results of ballistic tests to determine whether a police officer or someone else fired the shot that killed a northern Indiana man aren't expected for at least several days, a state police spokesman said Monday.

Elkhart police said two officers were responding to a burglary report around 3:40 a.m. Sunday when they heard gunshots, ran to the scene and opened fire.
