The Latest: Lower revenue restrains governor's budget plan
Gov. Dennis Daugaard will offer a budget plan restrained by lower-than-expected tax collections, forcing officials to address a shortfall this year and tamp down spending increases for the next budget cycle.
The plan includes roughly $20 million in general state spending increases during the next budget year for education, Medicaid providers and state workers.
The proposal includes roughly $2.4 million for budget reserves and $5 million for a new animal disease laboratory, among other expenses.
