Capitals too much for Peter Budaj, Kings
Washington backup Philipp Grubauer stopped 38 shots for his third shutout of the season and the host Capitals ended the Los Angeles Kings’ five-game winning streak with a 5-0 win Sunday.
“When you don’t manage the puck well and give them opportunities to score, they’re going to score,” Los Angeles defenseman Jake Muzzin said.
Chris Kreider and Jesper Fast scored 3:12 apart in the middle of the third period to help New York to its second victory in its past seven home games.
“We’re aware obviously of the record we’ve had here the past few weeks and it’s something we want to improve,” said New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who stopped 29 shots.
Leon Draisaitl scored the only goal in the shootout and Cam Talbot made 22 saves in regulation and overtime and three in the one-on-one session as visiting Edmonton moved three points behind the first-place Sharks in the Pacific Division.
