Bellucci Ends Tipsarevic's Charge In Quito
Spanish qualifier Roberto Carballes Baena brought a close to local favourite Giovanni Lapentti’s career with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. The 34-year-old Lapentti, who bowed out of the doubles alongside brother Nicolas no Tuesday, was contesting his final ATP World Tour tournament and was bidding to reach his first quarter-final since 2005 Scottsdale.
The 23-year-old Carballes Baena will face fellow Spaniard, second seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas, for a place in the semi-finals. In a battle of the lefties, Ramos-Vinolas won the final match of the day when he took down Colombia’s Alejandro Falla 6-2, 7-5.
