Bond with Elway led to Lynch’s first hire with 49ers
Last week, on his second full day as the 49ers general manager, John Lynch hired Broncos director of college scouting Adam Peters as his vice president of player personnel.
[...] he can credit the assist to Broncos general manager John Elway.
Elway and Lynch are close friends and their connection played a large role in Elway’s decision to allow Peters out of his contract with the Broncos.
On Wednesday, in a phone interview with The Chronicle, Elway was asked if he would have let Peters out of his contract to go to another team besides the 49ers.
Lynch, of course, is attempting to replicate Elway’s success after taking a similar path to an executive role.
Like Elway, he is a decorated former player who arrives with no NFL front-office experience.
Elway spent six seasons as the GM and co-owner of an Arena Football League team before joining the Broncos in 2011.
[...] Lynch has spent the past eight years around the NFL as a FOX analyst.
