Curvy cover star Ashley Graham joins Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid on cover of US Vogue
Having landed the cover of British Vogue in January, you'd be forgiven for thinking Ashley Graham's 2017 career timeline may have peaked too soon.
But if there's any higher accolade to achieve, Graham will always reach it. Proven by the revelation that she has now landed not only the March issue of US Vogue, but that she stars alongside some of the biggest supermodels of today.
Posing next to Liu Wen, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Imaan Hammam, Adwoa Aboah and Vittoria Ceretti on a private stretch of beack in Malibu, Graham is an integral part of Vogue's 'beauty revolution'.
Keen to prove that 'no norm is the new norm', the cover story says: "Each of these cover girls proudly inhabits her own particular gorgeousness in her own particular way. Together they represent a seismic social shift: The new beauty norm is no norm."
"And fashion, the industry that - yes - has historically done much to enforce beauty codes, is joining the movement. ¡Viva la revolución! All are welcome. Anything goes."
Speaking at the shoot, Kendall Jenner said: "This is my second Vogue cover, and to be sharing that not only with one of my best friends, but with all of these amazing women, is very meaningful for me."
"With all that’s going on in the world, this cover makes such an important statement. It’s like, hey, we’ve got our differences, but those differences are beautiful. Everyone is beautiful."
The shoot comes just two months after Ashley Graham starred on the cover of British Vogue, a cover story that was rejected by a number of fashion houses who "flatly refused to lend their clothes"
"It seems strange to me", Editor in Chief Alexandra Shulman wrote in her opening letter, "that while the rest of the world is desperate for fashion to embrace broader definitions of physical beauty, some of our most famous fashion brands appear to be travelling in the opposite - and, in my opinion, unwise - direction."
Thankfully the attutide of these unnamed brands was not shared by Coach, who "moved speedily to provide clothes that had to come from outside their sample range".
Speaking on the set of the US Vogue cover shoot, Graham addressed the discussion around body image in the industry. "Sixty-seven percent of the women in America wear a size 14 or larger. Sixty-seven percent."
"Maybe you could ignore those consumers before, but now, thanks to social media, they’re making their voices heard."
"Women are demanding that brands give them what they want. And what they want is to be visible."
