Steve Kerr to miss Game 4, status for rest of playoffs in doubt
Steve Kerr to miss Game 4, status for rest of playoffs in doubt Steve Kerr will miss Game 4 of the first round Monday as he continues to seek a solution to his nagging pain, the Warriors’ head coach told reporters Sunday afternoon. General manager Bob Myers was initially scheduled to speak on Kerr’s behalf, but Kerr ultimately decided to address the media at the team’s hotel in downtown Portland. Though he declined to describe his symptoms, the reigning NBA Coach of the Year said the pain worsened five days ago. Kerr’s lead assistant, Mike Brown, who coached Golden State to a Game 3 win Saturday, will continue to serve as the interim head coach. “As of now, I’m consulting with my doctors,” Kerr said. If I can get some improvement, I’ll get back on the sidelines. Kerr missed the first 43 games last season because of problems stemming from back surgery. Though he is still trying to figure out the cause of his current symptoms, Kerr advocated against back surgery Sunday. Kevin Durant (left calf strain), Shaun Livingston (right index finger sprain) and Matt Barnes (right ankle/foot sprain) all remain questionable. Everybody obviously is concerned for Steve, but the way that Bob and Steve have communicated with the group, it’s kind of put everybody’s mind at ease, at least for the time being.
